The National Travel - European Design hotels
Unveiled in Aug 2007, Lánchíd 19 won the European Hotel Design Awards’ 2008 prize for best architecture and deservedly so.
The unique exterior is made up of glass panels covered in tiny animal graphics, which are linked to a sensor and flutter according to the weather. It glows at night turning the hotel into a kind of lighthouse on the Danube riverbank. Inside doesn’t disappoint on the design front either.
Glass is everywhere, from staircases to bridges leading to the 48 rooms and suites, each custom-designed with individual wall art. Penthouse spaces come with huge oval bathtubs and terraces and those facing the river can press a button and glass sheets slide sideways for unbroken views. Doubles start from US $131 (Dh4,82), including breakfast.
