Christmas in the city

Christmas period makes Budapest especially bright.

Budapest is proud of its authentic Christmas markets. In the biggest squares and most popular touristic sites there are bigger or smaller Advent Fairs throughout the city. Probably the two most popular and most traditional fairs are at Vörösmarty Square and at the Basilika. Hand-made Hungarian crafts can be bought as gifts for the beloved ones, concerts, laser shows, dance and theatral performances are  part of the entertaining programs. Santa Claus will arrive at the beginning of December as special program for children. Hungarian food specialites and mulled wine are musts top try – stuffed cabbage, goulash, flat bread (lepény) baked in clay oven, strudels, Sekler cake, beigli and winter beverages like mulled wine, krampampuli, grog.

Each year there is a traditional Christmas Fair next to Lanchid 19 design hotel, at Várkert Bazár (Castle Garden Bazaar). Special programs and skating for children, mulled wine for adults and much more…. Special Hungarian crafts and dishes for you to try.

Dates: December 8, 15 and 22

Opening hours: 10 am – 6 pm

Christmas Fair at Gozsdu Court is also an  annual Xmas market where you can meet  contemporary Hungarian designers and their crafts.

Location: Gozsdu Udvar, Király u. 13., Dob utca 16.

Dates: December 4-23 except for Monday and Tuesday

Opening hours: 12 am – 8 pm
